The Pride of Baltimore II was launched in April 1988, received full
certification in January 1989 and has since sailed to many ports. Designed
by Thomas Gillmer and built by G.Peter Boudreau, it replaced the earlier
Pride of Baltimore lost at sea in 1986.
Built primarily as a means of providing public attraction to the Inner
Harbour area at Baltimore, the design is based on the early designs of
Baltimore Clippers, many drawings of which were done in Britain during
surveys following the war of 1812.
The kit contains an excellent instruction manual. The major parts for
the hull are laser cut in basswood, all strip wood is basswood, beech doweling
is provided for masts and spars and, the only piece of ply, features laser
cut mast hoops. There is a host of brass and Britannia metal fittings,
walnut blocks and deadeyes, and four different hanks of rigging thread.
